Problematic behaviors evolve as a way to cope with a situation or attempt to solve a problem. While these behaviors might provide temporary relief, they often are not effective in the long-term. DBT assumes that clients are doing the best they can, AND they need to learn new behaviors in all relevant contexts.

DBT is a collection of life skills broken into 6 modules. These skills help to increase awareness, challenge opposing forces and create change.

WEEK ONE: INTRODUCTION TO DBT

This session is mandatory for participants to attend in order to fully gain understanding of the group dynamics and rules, as well as an introduction to the core concepts of DBT

 

WEEK TWO: MINDFULNESS

Mindfulness is a core module, as it is sprinkled into each skill. Here you learn how to increase your awareness of the present moment and simplify varying aspects of life. 

 

WEEK THREE: DISTRESS TOLERANCE

Distress tolerance skills assist in accepting reality when it may be difficult to do so otherwise. This module teaches how to cope with one’s feelings and accept the reality of adverse situations

 

WEEK FOUR: EMOTION REGULATION

This module works to provide tools in order for you to be more in-tune with the ebbs and flows of emotions, so you are less vulnerable to the intensities. The work done during this session will help you get into the driver’s seat, instead of hanging on for an emotional ride. 

 

WEEK FIVE: INTERPERSONAL EFFECTIVENESS

Interpersonal effectiveness skills enable you to attend more appropriately to relationships, balance priorities vs demands and build a sense of mastery and self respect. This module works to help you build healthy relationships with others, as well as yourself. 

 

WEEK SIX: COGNITIVE MODIFICATION, PROBLEM SOLVING & CLOSING THOUGHT:

This last module will work to tie everything together and review the information processed throughout the entirety of the program in order to ensure that each participant has a solid foundation in new life changing skills
