What drew you to this type of work?
I have always been interested in the intersection between mental and physical health. The psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner role allows me to address that connection, along with the ways mental health can impact relationships and daily life, while advocating for my patients’ overall quality of life.
What do you value most in the therapeutic relationship?
I value creating a space where people feel comfortable being themselves. Talking about mental health can feel incredibly vulnerable, and I never want someone to feel embarrassed or judged for what they are experiencing. I also believe strongly in collaboration. I want my patients to feel actively involved in their care so that we can make decisions together and develop a treatment plan that feels right for them and their individual needs.
What do you want clients to know before their first session?
Our initial visit is an opportunity for me to get to know you, understand what you’ve been experiencing, and learn what you hope to gain from treatment. We will talk through your concerns and explore different treatment options, including medication when appropriate, so that we can develop a plan that feels right for you.
How do you hope clients feel after working with you over time?
I hope clients feel heard, supported, and more confident in navigating their mental health. Over time, my goal is for clients to better understand themselves and their symptoms, feel empowered in their treatment decisions, and recognize the progress they’ve made.
